Made in India iPhones
When Apple’s CEO Tim Cook visited the White House, it was not just for a formal meeting. He came to offer the U.S. a “new investment pledge” and a symbolic gift of a 24-carat gold-plated disk. Cook met with U.S. President Donald Trump and announced an investment of $100 billion, approximately ₹9 lakh crores.
Significant Increase in iPhone Manufacturing in India
In the first half of 2025 (January-June), the number of iPhones manufactured in India surpassed 2.39 crores, marking a 53% increase from the previous year. Export of iPhones from India has also reached record levels, with 22.88 million units sent abroad, valued at ₹1.94 lakh crores. This figure was up by 52% from the previous year’s ₹1.26 lakh crores.
India Surpasses China in iPhone Exports to the U.S.
In April 2025, India sent 33 lakh iPhones to the U.S., leaving behind China, which only shipped 9 lakh units. Currently, 78% of iPhones sold in the U.S. are being manufactured in India, compared to 53% last year.
Apple’s Global Reshaping
While the U.S. is receiving significant investments and a glittering display of nationalism, India is emerging as a manufacturing powerhouse for Apple. This is not merely a company’s strategy but a tale of new technological politics where the global supply chain is being determined not just by costs but also by politics and trust.
Tim Cook’s “Golden Disk” may have been a gift for Trump, but for the world, it signifies that Apple has become an active player in global politics. Investment, production, and strategy are now echoing in two words: “Made in India, Powered by America.”
